Guided boat tours increase understanding of the port
Over 95 per cent of people
who went on recent guided boat tours of the
port said the trip increased their understanding of the port's operations and
facilities.
Almost
everyone gave the tours a 4 or 5 out of 5 for
this.
More than 260 local residents from Port Melbourne, Williamstown,
Yarraville, Newport, Footscray and Docklands joined Port of
Melbourne Corporation’s (PoMC) Community Relations team for six 2.5
hour-long boat tours of the port on Saturday 20 and 27 February,
2010.
Mr Taylor
said 'I thought the vessel and commentary were excellent'.
Sophie and Dave from Yarraville praised the 'great commentary and
friendly crew!'.
Each tour ran
a circuit via Pier 35 in Port Melbourne,
Boatman’s Landing at Waterfront City, Docklands, and Gem Pier
in Williamstown. A live commentary pointed out places of interest including South
Wharf, Victoria, Appleton, Holden and Webb Docks, the Yarraville berths
and Station Pier.
On some tours, the boat was
able to visit Swanson Dock, the home of Melbourne’s two
international container terminals.
Almost everyone signed up to receive more information on port
development planning. The other most popular topics were Station
Pier, Webb Dock and the port's environmental and community
initiatives.
The boat tours were part of PoMC's community relations program to
improve links with the port's neighbouring communities.
PoMC thanks everyone who attended. |
