Port corporation

The Port of Melbourne Corporation started operations on 1 July 2003. The Victorian Government established PoMC to be the strategic port manager for the Port of Melbourne, with the functions and powers to undertake the integrated management and development of the land and water side of the port.

It has taken on the roles and responsibilities of the former Melbourne Port Corporation, which ceased operations on 30 June 2003, and, from 3 November 2003,  the Victorian Channels Authority in relation to the channels and port waters of the Port of Melbourne.
