Port Development StrategyAs the hub of a logistics network which stretches across south-eastern Australia, the Port of Melbourne is Australia’s largest container and general cargo port and a crucial supply chain interface for Victoria. The Port Development Strategy gives a framework
for efficiently handling the increasing freight volumes expected at the
Port of Melbourne. By outlining the port’s plans to 2035, the strategy provides scope for future infrastructure investment to service port customers, stakeholders and the broader community in the port’s urban context. The Channel Deepening Project, due for completion by the end of 2009, addresses marine infrastructure for the Port of Melbourne and the rigour applied to that project will also apply to the port’s landside developments. Adopting the long-term planning approach outlined in this strategic vision positions the Port of Melbourne to build on its competitive strengths and provide added value to port customers and the Victorian community.
