Port open day boat tours are fun, family-friendly and the best way to see Australia’s busiest port, right on the city’s doorstep. Tours depart from Harbour Lights Landing in Docklands (link to map), and include Victoria Dock and Appleton Dock, and Webb Dock.

Port Open Day boat tours run on weekends, subject to charter boat and staff availability. All tours are round-trips, leaving from and returning to Harbour Lights Landing in Docklands.

FAQs
If the weather is bad, will the tour still run?
This is an all-weather event – even in poor weather the boat is very stable as the tour is in the Yarra River, not the bay. We recommend bringing a warm jacket and wear comfortable shoes. There are indoor and outdoor decks.
What are the COVID protocols?
If you have tested positive for COVID-19 14 days prior to the event, we ask that you do not attend. We also encourage wearing a mask and practicing good hand hygiene. Please be considerate of others attending.
Can I bring food and drink on board?
Unfortunately food and drinks are not permitted on board, as there is insufficient time to clean the boat between tours. Water bottles are permitted. We recommend you eat before or after the tour.
I wish to bring an elderly family member, can they board the boat ok?
We welcome all ages. We can assist with boarding, and most wheelchairs can be accommodated. If you or a loved one have mobility issues, please make yourself known to our friendly staff who will arrange early boarding. If you have any concerns please email us at community@portofmelbourne.com
Can I pay on the day?
Unfortunately we cannot accept payment on the day of your tour. All bookings require pre-payment via credit card, through the secure payment portal attached to our online booking form.
Can I get a refund if I can’t make it to a tour?
Refunds are accepted up to seven days prior to the tour. In the unlikely event that Port of Melbourne cancels a tour, a full refund (excluding booking fee) will be returned to your nominated credit card.
Can I book over the phone?
Unfortunately we cannot process bookings and payment over the phone. If you would like to join a tour, please use our online booking form, once bookings are open.
Can I bring children?
Yes, children are welcome to join a Port Open Day tour, as long as they are supervised by an adult. Kids love looking at the cranes and the tug boats, so definitely bring them along! The tour boat can accommodate prams and pushers too. We’ll have limited activities for the kids on board (parents or carers must supervise).
