BRISBANE – Port of Melbourne engineer Airrish Floresca has won the Rising Star Award at the inaugural Australian Logistics Council Supply Chain Summit Awards.

This award is in recognition of an individual or organisation who is relatively new to the industry that is demonstrating extraordinary commitment and success and is seen as a star in the future of the industry.

Port of Melbourne Executive General Manager Operations Craig Faulkner said Ms Floresca has worked at Port of Melbourne for four years.

“She started at Port of Melbourne as an Asset Engineer and then moved on to Project Engineer – Port Rail and most recently her outstanding work has seen her promoted to Project Manager of our $125 million Port Rail Transformation Project,” Mr Faulkner said.

As an asset engineer, Ms Floresca developed asset data roadmaps to improve data collection for critical assets. She made her first major mark by establishing an ‘asset handover process’ for major construction projects. This achievement has greatly improved the way Port of Melbourne reviews and receives asset information and has significantly enhanced the quality of Port of Melbourne’s tenant and asset management services.

Mr Faulkner said that over the past two years, Ms Floresca has been instrumental in the design and construction of the Port Rail Transformation Project (PRTP).

“The PRTP will see more containers moved by rail more efficiently, by-passing roads in inner Melbourne,” he said.

“Ms Floresca brought an innovative focus to the project from the very beginning by working with designers to create a 3D model of the project.”

“This was an incredibly useful tool for communicating the design to various stakeholders prior to construction. The success of the digital model at PRTP resulted in a digital innovation program across the business.”

“During construction, Ms Floresca has worked closely with the Principal Contractor to identify and implement sustainability opportunities such as re-using rainwater for dust suppression and re-using 40,000T of excavated material in pavement construction, thereby reducing the export of material to landfill and recycling 93 per cent of material from site demolition.”
