28 November 2024 – Port of Melbourne has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, detailing its ongoing commitment to serving Victoria in a sustainable and impactful way. The report highlights key initiatives, including the Port’s partnerships with community organisations, such as the Williamstown Football Club (FC).
Since 2020, Port of Melbourne has been a proud major partner of Williamstown FC, providing support for the club’s initiatives, such as its Accelerated Football Program and Seagull Session clinics. These programs aim to nurture young talents and promote active lifestyles among students.
In 2024, Port of Melbourne funding enabled Williamstown FC to deliver the Seagull Session clinics to six schools across Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong, positively impacting 610 primary school students. These clinics focus on building skills, boosting confidence, and inspiring greater participation in sports among the next generation of young athletes.
The Hon. Melissa Horne MP, Member for Williamstown, commented, “Williamstown Football Club is kicking goals on and off the field, reaching over 600 primary school students with their fantastic clinics thanks to the support of Port of Melbourne. It’s great to see local kids gaining skills, confidence, and a love for sport thanks to this incredible community partnership.”
Port of Melbourne CEO Saul Cannon said, “The communities of Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong mean a lot to Port of Melbourne. As a city-port located among growing communities, we take pride in partnering with a local treasure like Williamstown Football Club.”
Williamstown Football Club CEO Ashley Baker stated, “Port of Melbourne’s support empowers us to broaden our community impact through initiatives like the Seagull Sessions and Accelerated Programs. By strengthening youth pathways and expanding outreach efforts, our partnership marks a pivotal step in our commitment to creating meaningful change both on and off the field.”
In FY24, Port of Melbourne contributed $219,000 to its community partners, which also include Williamstown Surf Life Saving Club, Foodbank Victoria, the Stella Maris Seafarer’s Centre Melbourne, and The Mission to Seafarers Victoria.
Mr Cannon added, “Port of Melbourne’s purpose, goals, and priorities are underpinned by a sustainability strategy that is centred around our people, planet, partnerships, and the prosperity of Victoria. While we work to ensure that trade continues to flow for the people and businesses of Victoria, we’re equally committed to giving back and making a meaningful difference.”
